A Church Service has been organised in Accra to induct into office, the first officers of the newly recognised Accra Diocesan Ghana Methodist Studentsโ€™ Union [GHAMSU].

The Service which came off at the Mt Olivet Methodist Chapel, Dansoman, on Sunday, November 12, 2023, was officiated by the Methodist Bishop of Accra Diocese, the Rt Rev Emmanuel Borlabi Bortey.

The 9-member executive body is led by Bro Paa Kwesi Addison as Chairman; Sis Eunice Efua Eduah Andoh, Vice Chairman; Sis Sharon Mensimaa Walker, Secretary and Sis Christabel Nartey, Assistant Secretary. The rest are Bro Isaac Duodu Ankrah, Treasurer; Bro King-Edu Charles, Prayer and Evangelism Secretary; Bro Benjamin Gyasi, Organiser; Sis Priscilla Abrokwah, Special Duties Coordinator and Bro Prince Kwofie Fordjour, Co-opted member.

Inducting the new officers into office, Bishop Borlabi Bortey prayed โ€œthat the Lord Himself will lead them in the task He has called them and given to themโ€ฆand that they may be faithful servants.โ€

Bemoaning the involvement of students in deviant activities, Rt Rev Borlabi Bortey charged the new officers to help in propagating the Gospel of Jesus Christ on their various school campuses.

Earlier, Bishop Borlabi Bortey officially proclaimed the emergence of GHAMSU as a new body in the Diocese, explaining โ€œthe Ghana Methodist Studentsโ€™ Union has been in existence for so many years but with the creation of new Dioceses, thereโ€™s been the need to structure the activities of our Studentsโ€™ Union to fall in line with the demarcations of the connexional Church.โ€

He added that โ€œIt used to be the Accra, Northern Accra, Tema and Somanya Dioceses as one geographical authority in the Studentsโ€™ Union, but now they are breaking into their respective Dioceses.โ€

The Induction Service was attended by the Lay Chairman and Synod Secretary of the Accra Diocese, Bro Joseph Eduam and the Very Rev Mrs Doris Abena Saah, respectively as well as the Superintendent Minister of the Dansoman Circuit, the Rt Rev Christopher Nyarko Andam. Also present was the Connexional Coordinator of GHAMSU, the Rev Yaw Anokye Kyei Baffour and the Accra Diocesan Youth Organiser, the Rev Edward Niikwei Okine.

Prayers were said for the new Diocesan Officers. Congregants also raised funds to support the activities of GHAMSU.
